Scrub Do’s and Don’ts

If you’re a medical professional then the scrub is probably your daily required uniform.  Let’s not kid each other here, everyone has a body type and not all things look good on everyone. This list isn’t simply about wearing a cartoon character scrub top in the ICU, these are just a few of the major fashion faux pas that I’ve seen in my day and wanted to share.
Peep Show – Ladies make sure that the scrub top you wear is the correct size. You’re at work to do a job, and giving all of your patients a peep show isn’t one of them. If you’re wearing a v neck and there is way too much skin showing, by all means wear an undershirt. Keep in mind that this is a place of business and professionalism is important.
Choose Scrubs Your Size – I’ve often seen female nurses wearing skin tight scrub pants that look like they were literally painted on. There is no way that you’re able to function let alone be productive in pants that are too tight. Choose pants that give you the ability to move and actually do your job and leave the skinny jeans for the clubs.
Transparent Scrubs – I know some nurses are required to wear white scrubs, and others choose to wear them. Whatever the case, if you’re wearing white scrubs please make sure that you have on dark colored under garments. There’s nothing worse than seeing a flowered bra through a nurses scrub top, or seeing flowered panties as they pass you. If you have something against darker colored undergarments, then definitely splurge and get white scrubs that aren’t see through.
These are only a few of the faux pas that I’ve see many nurses commit. Please don’t end up being the main topic of the break room at your job. Take a look at the selection of plus size scrubs that are offered.

Dark Color Scrubs

Not everyone has the option of choosing the color scrubs that you are required to wear, but if you’re one of the lucky ones and get to choose your color we wanted to give you heads up on something’s to consider.
Some people tend to shy away from darker colors as they think it makes them look harsher, but that isn’t necessarily the case. One advantage of dark colors is the fact that it hides stains easily. This is definitely a plus as a nurse because as we all know that stains are inevitable. Dark color scrubs are great, but be mindful of them. Break up some of the monotony of the color by using other contrasting colors.
In most medical fields, we want to make sure that our patients are uplifted and not but in an even somber mood because of your scrubs. Don’t get me wrong, you don’t always need to wear pastels or cartoon character scrubs in your field, but going to dark all the time can be a bit overwhelming. Darker colored scrubs are especially ideal for male nurses, who tend to lean towards the darker blues, green, grays.
Take a look at all of our many scrubs choices, all available in 15 different color choices, sure to fit your needs.

What to Do About Those Pesky Scrub Stains

As nurses we know that we cannot escape some of the not so pleasant things that we come in contact with on a daily basis. Let’s face it, most of the things are extremely gross and often times they end up on our scrubs. Here are a few suggestions of how to get out some of those pesky scrub stains and keep you looking great and professional.
Vomit Stains –
Rinse in warm water and apply a tablespoon of ammonia. If you have a stain stick use this as well, otherwise rinse the ammonia with warm water and the stain should be gone.
Blood Stains –
Apply cold water and bar soap. If the stains are in white scrubs, then hydrogen peroxide is the way to go. For color scrubs then cold water, bar soap to scrub the stain. If you have a stain stick that could also be used.
Urine Stains –
Mix water, with simple green and ammonia. Work this solution into the stain and let sit for a bit. Wash your garment as normal and the urine smell and stain should be gone.
Ink Stains –
To treat ink stains you can use an acetone product like nail polish remover. Work the stain and wash as normal.
Just in case the stain is too large or you don’t have these items available keeping an extra set of scrubs from Plus Size Scrub is always a good idea.
