What to Do About Those Pesky Scrub Stains

As nurses we know that we cannot escape some of the not so pleasant things that we come in contact with on a daily basis. Let’s face it, most of the things are extremely gross and often times they end up on our scrubs. Here are a few suggestions of how to get out some of those pesky scrub stains and keep you looking great and professional.
Vomit Stains –
Rinse in warm water and apply a tablespoon of ammonia. If you have a stain stick use this as well, otherwise rinse the ammonia with warm water and the stain should be gone.
Blood Stains –
Apply cold water and bar soap. If the stains are in white scrubs, then hydrogen peroxide is the way to go. For color scrubs then cold water, bar soap to scrub the stain. If you have a stain stick that could also be used.
Urine Stains –
Mix water, with simple green and ammonia. Work this solution into the stain and let sit for a bit. Wash your garment as normal and the urine smell and stain should be gone.
Ink Stains –
To treat ink stains you can use an acetone product like nail polish remover. Work the stain and wash as normal.
Just in case the stain is too large or you don’t have these items available keeping an extra set of scrubs from Plus Size Scrub is always a good idea.
